Just outside Salt Lake City are amazing salt flats. They stretch into the horizon and meet the mountains. It's incredible.  I couldn't help but imagine what the pioneers must have thought when they were confronted with such a desolate and awe inspiring terrain. Even knowing I came by car and could easily leave, I was intimidated by the vastness and harshness of the flats.  Sterling took this picture.
